Users are valuable

In case you live under a rock, Meta just launched Threads, a new social media app with aspirations of becoming a Twitter-killer. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the app passed 2 million sign ups in the first two hours.

The application interface is straightforward and easy to understand, and the account creation flow was dead simple. But the real secret to its initial success was its tight integration with Instagram, which meant if you had an Instagram account:

  • you could instantly claim your @ handle from Instagram
  • you could instantly import your avatar and bio from Instagram
  • you could auto-follow all the people you follow on IG when they join Threads

Moral of the story?

Never underestimate the power of an existing user base.

If you’re on Threads already, let’s connect!

Cheers,
Jesse Gardner
